michelle's maxim*

i don't need anyone... but Jesus,
i don't want anyone... but You.*

thought about Warhol and how he filled my mind for most part of wednesday night and how i engaged Shoun talking about resource curse and Warhol. i really like Ross' paper and how he began it with quotes by 'important' people that sound like bullshit but resonate so much hard-hitting truth.

It is the devil's excrement. We are drowning in the devil's excrement.

--Juan Pablo Pérez Alfonso, Founder OPEC

We are in part to blame, but this is the curse of being born with a copper spoon in our mouths.

--Kenneth Kaunda, President of Zambia

All in all, I wish we had discovered water.
--Sheik Ahmed Yamani, Oil minister, Saudi Arabia

This is the depth of the resource curse. Haven't ploughed through the whole of Ross' paper but from the bits that i got i reckon that it's gonna impact my life and that it's a good read. But since i didn't manage to get Auty's original genius on the resource curse, God ultimately pointed me to the direction of doing the paper on Wallerstein's brainchild World-Systems Theory, which, according to Hall and other scholars, shouldn't be called a theory but more of a paradigm or perspective. They make sense and have provided me with a great critique of WST. Well, great intellectual stuff that is just making me smarter and smarter by the second. Just had an ultra efficient morning... finishing one short reading in one hour. It seems to be the record. This has to keep up for me to hopefully finish writing the thousand five hundred word paper by about 2pm and submit it before 5pm. yup. pray hard and depend on God's strength and genius. IF i really need to i'll prolly pop a nodoz which is like 2 cups of coffee worth of caffeine.

had a nice evening with amanda. will leave that to next time.

back to warhol before i forget.* he doesn't necessarily create that makes him a genius but he recreates and transforms and therefore creates a new thing that is so refreshing. -think campbell soup and repeated cow heads in different shades- seriously. it's not so undo-able but he thought of it and made it such an art. well i love it. warhol is the man. his stroke of genius is undeniable. was just thinking about his controversial video productions as well. eat. sleep. sex. these avantgarde films of his are derived from life. the very essence of it that we all just take forgranted cos we do it so routinely and mechanically. but it is these very things that create us. make or break us. it's funny how we find it fascinating to watch what we do daily on film. but i guess it's cos you would never ever stop to watch someone sleep or eat or having a fellatio done on him. people are just too self-absorbed and distracted by all sorts to stop stare observe and think. and that's precisely what warhol's done. really wanna get my hands on these films.
it's really quite a pity the shooting had to happen and he had to die so young. but oh just as well. the world' getting too sad to live in anyway.

we need another stroke of genius... another wonderful revolution that would take us by storm. something as great as or even more liberating and uplifting than Pop-art /Pop-ism.

until then, warhol will suffice*
In loving memory of a great artist who dared to love and dared to live*~
